The first car show was held in May 1999 at Harry Myers Park in Rockwall and was sponsored by the Rockwall County Historical Foundation. Approximately 70 show vehicles were in attendance.
By popular demand, a second car show was held in May 2000 at the same location. The notoriety of this event was beyond our imagination as show cars flooded the park to capacity! Unfortunately, we had to turn show cars away because we quickly ran out of room! Approximately 150 show cars participated in this fundraising event again benefiting the Rockwall County Historical Foundation.
The show was growing! In the year 2001, the name was changed to "Cruise 'n' Blues" Collector Car Fest. A Saturday night cruise was added and a stunning blues band performance on the courthouse square authenticated its name. It was an instant hit! The City of Rockwall recognized the visitor impact of this event and agreed to allow the Sunday Car Show to be held at the Rockwall Municipal Airport. Over 250 cars participated each day with hundreds of out of town visitors to the Rockwall area! And, of course, we had a trophy category for ... you guessed it! Airplanes!
Due to the tremendous growth of "Cruise 'n' Blues", in 2002, a new charitable entity, "The Blue Pegasus Foundation", was formed. "Cruise 'n' Blues" would now be administered under the Blue Pegasus wing. The Foundation's purpose donates proceeds to Rockwall area children's charities and The Blue Pegasus Foundation Scholarship Fund.
The Cruise 'n' Blues event is produced solely by the efforts of volunteers. We can all be proud of our participation in this event, as it truly makes a difference in our community!
The 2004 cruise event included a tour thru beautiful Buffalo Creek! It rained, however, and the railroad track malfunctioned which caused a tremendous traffic delay! Our police force re-routed our cruise and unfortunately parts of Lakeshore Drive was omitted. We eventually made it to the Downtown Historic Courthouse Square, the "gathering place" of our community! With special thanks to the Rockwall Independent School District, the Sunday Car Show was held at the spacious campus of Rockwall High School. The sun was shining, and everyone went home smiling!
